Police Reserve Unit

Becoming a Quincy Police Department Police Reserve is an honor and privilege not everyone can attain

You will be asked to live your life, both on and off duty, in such a manner that community members can look to you as an example. Your on and off duty actions will be put on display as others will not be able to separate you from a regular full-time officer and that of a reserve.

The following is a list of the requirements for being eligible for the position. It is by no means a comprehensive list of all the requirements, but it should give you an idea of the process for being selected, as well as what will be required of you once you have been chosen as a QPD Reserve.

Requirements:

To apply you must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and a U.S. citizen. You shall possess a valid Washington State driver's license and have a good driving record. You must also possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent. All applicants shall have no felony record and no arrests for Domestic Violence related charges. Applicants with any other criminal convictions or pending charges will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

All applicants will be required to fill out a complete application, which must be notarized prior to submission (No Later Than 5:00 pm on September 5, 2013) . The applicant must then pass a physical fitness test (The state mandated test is attached for your review.) An Oral Board will then be conducted. The physical fitness test will be on September 7, 2013, at 8:00 am at the Quincy High School Track followed by Oral Boards beginning at 1:00 pm at the Quincy Police Department for those that pass the physical fitness test. A background check will be conducted by the Department which includes a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) III check and an abstract of the applicants driving history. Applicants will be scored and only those finishing high enough will be chosen to attend the final stages of the testing process.

Finally, you will be asked to submit to a polygraph test, as well as a psychological evaluation.

IF YOU ARE SELECTED AS A CANDIDATE TO ATTEND THE ACADEMY

You will participate in the Grant County Sheriff's Office Reserve Academy. The academy classes run Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Almost every Saturday and some Sundays are required, with times varying on these days depending on the class. Attendance is required and only a minimal number of excused absences will be allowed. Unexcused absences will not be tolerated. The class culminates with mock scenes and the state-proctored test. If you pass all the required phases, you will be allowed to graduate and will be commissioned.

Once you are commissioned:

The Department will provide you with all required equipment except socks, boots, and t-shirts. We will also require you to put in 20 hours per month and successfully pass a Field Training Program. You will be required to attend all court hearings when subpoenaed. Our reserves are asked to fill security details at the schools, provide assistance to patrol and handle calls for service. We especially rely on them during the summer months when calls for service are at a peak.

What you can expect from us:

We understand you are donating your time to the community and to our Department. We are flexible with and understand family is first and foremost. We will provide you with quality training and you will spend approximately the first six months to a year working with fully commissioned officers who will help you refine your skills. Once you have been signed off on your training, we will have our FTO's certify you for solo patrol. From that point on, you will be offered training and allowed to function in the same capacity as a full-time officer while on duty.

We value our reserves and want them to have an opportunity to belong to a very distinct and honored group of individuals. Many of our full-time officers in Quincy, as well as with other surrounding Law Enforcement agencies, once started their careers as a reserve.

Thank you for considering the Quincy Police Department as your way of giving something back to the community. We and your community are grateful for your dedication and selfless act of community service.
